C-SPAN March 22 - William T. Coleman tribute

This Saturday at 6:30pm, C-SPAN'S "American and the Courts" will feature a
Friends of the Law Library of Congress tribute to William T. Coleman
recently held at the U.S. Supreme Court. From the C-SPAN site at

"THIS WEEKEND ON AMERICA & THE COURTS...
Saturday March 22, 1997 .... 6:30 p.m. ET

A tribute to William Coleman the first African American law clerk to the
Supreme Court. In his 50 year legal career, Coleman helped write the NAACP
briefs in the historic Brown V. Board of Education case; and argued
numerous cases before the Supreme Court. He also served as Transportation
Secretary under President Ford, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of
Freedom in 1995 by President Clinton. In this tribute held on February 27
in the Courtroom of the Supreme Court, the Friends of the Law Library of
Congress honor Coleman with their Wickersham Award for "exceptional public
service and dedication to the legal profession." Remarks at the 90 minute
ceremony were made by Elaine Jones, Director of the NAACP Legal Defense
and Education Fund; Louis Pollak, Senior Judge for the U.S. District Court
for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; Senator Arlen Spector and
Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens."
