Several years ago, Chicago Tribune columnist Mike Royko wrote
about a paralegal who started informing telemarketers that they
would be billed for future sales calls.
I think this paralegal even offered a service similar to the direct-mail
preference list; people could contact him, and he'd add
their names to a list he'd send to telemarketers with a notice
that all sales calls to anyone on the list would be billed.
