As an academic librarian responsible for collection development, I have a
question which I do not believe I have seen on Law-lib yet. I hope it
isn't a stupid one. What is the reason law-lib is carrying so many give
aways from law firms of what looks to me like substantial or entire
portions of print collections? Are law firms using CD or online sources
and using that as a justification to empty shelves? Are law firms closing?
What's the deal? Are law firms going to a paperless information source
way ahead of academic libraries? Is this a choice of expedient economics
or is it something else? I wish this information so that I can learn not
to be critical. Please reply to the list so that others in my position
can understand. -- Melanie Nelson, Univ. of Tulsa Law Library
