We are trying to find the Michigan statute and regulations for surface mining in gravel/stone quarries. I just spent some time in MCLA and recent Michigan case law with no success--lots on surface coal mining, but nothing on gravel quarries. Found a couple of recent quarry cases which refer to a Township Ordinance Act, in which the state appears to grant broad powers, though not specifically re: quarries, to townships to regulate matters re: citizens safety and health.

Called Michigan DNR just to check that we weren't totally off-base, and, wouldn't you know, "the one guy who knows everything about it is on vacation." Don't you just love these bureaucrats?

If there is anyone out there who knows even a little less that the DNR's AWOL expert, I'd appreciate a lead. TIA.
