February 3, 1997. The American Association of Law Libraries (AALL)will
join Medical Library Association (MLA), Special Library Association (SLA)
and LEXIS-NEXIS to sponsor a groundbreaking satellite video conference,
"The Future for Librarians: Positioning Yourself for Success" on March 20,
1997, 2:00-3:30 p.m. eastern time.
The video conference will address the impact of new technologies on
libraries and will forecast what libraries and information services will
look like in the next ten years. The speakers will be Mark E. Estes,
Director of Libraries Services, Holme Roberts & Owen LLP; Joanne G.
Marshall, Ph.D., AHIP, Professor, Faculty of Information Studies,
University of Toronto; Toby Pearlstein, Ph.D., Manager of Information
Services, Bain & Company (Boston Office); and Bernie Todd Smith, AHIP,
Director, Library and Circuit Librarian Program, Werner Health Sciences.
These experts from all three sponsoring associations will examine the
emerging roles for librarians and present examples of how librarians can
market themselves within their organizations.
The video conference marks the first time AALL has worked with the larger
library community to provide an educational program to members who may not
have been able to attend the Association's site-specific educational
offerings, such as the Annual Meeting. It will also allow AALL Chapter
members who may not be members of the Association to participate in an AALL
program.
Registration will be through the sale of site licenses. Registration
brochures are now available from AALL by accessing the Association's web
site at:
http://www.aallnet.org/events/satellite_032097.html
or by contacting the AALL Executive Staff Office at 312/939-4764. The
deadline for early bird registration is March 5, 1997 for $300 and regular
registration must be made by March 14th for $350. Volume discounts are
available.
The American Association of Law Libraries was founded in 1906 to promote
and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities,
to foster the profession of law librarianship, and to provide leadership in
the field of legal information.
