                     POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Contingent on funding, the Valparaiso University School of Law
Library will have one of the following two positions available. The
Law Library invites applicants to apply for either or both of the
positions. Because Valparaiso is a small law school, the successful
candidate for either position must be interested in participating in
a wide variety of library operations, and must have some law library
experience.

           EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND RESEARCH LIBRARIAN

Duties: Provide reference and research services; help team teach
the legal research and writing courses; teach computer-assisted legal
research to faculty, staff, and students; supervise the computer
services in the law library; coordinate library outreach activities;
some evening and weekend work required; other duties as assigned.

Requirements: ALA-accredited M.L.S. and ABA-accredited J.D.; law
library experience; ability to work and communicate well with others;
strong service orientation; proficiency in traditional and computer
assisted legal research; knowledge and experience with the use of
computer technology in law libraries; html experience.

Preferred: Teaching Experience; supervisory experience with
computer operations and experience with an Innovative Interfaces
library system.

                    PUBLIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN

Duties: Provide reference service for students, faculty, and staff
including both traditional and electronic sources; supervise
circulation services, including the circulation aspects of an
Innovative Interfaces online library system; participate in the team
teaching of legal research and writing; supervise the development and
control of the periodical collection ; supervise audio-visual
operations; hire and supervise student assistants. Some evening and
weekend work required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: A.L.A.-accredited M.L.S.; two years' law library
experience; supervisory experience; ability to work and communicate
well with others; a strong service orientation; proficiency in
traditional and computer assisted legal research; knowledge and
experience with the use of computer technology in law libraries;
html experience.

Preferred: Supervisory experience in circulation, periodicals,
and/or audio-visual operations; experience with an Innovative
Interfaces library system; knowledge of legal materials.

Valparaiso University is a Lutheran-affiliated university in
Valparaiso, Indiana, a town of 26,000 located in a rural area of
Northern Indiana just south of Lake Michigan and one hour southeast
of Chicago. The School of Law occupies Wesemann Hall, a building
completed in 1986, and has approximately 450 full-time students and
a full-time faculty of 23. The Law Library has a collection of over
250,000 volumes in hardcopy and microform, and a staff of 5.8 FTE
professional librarians and 5 FTE support staff.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; 20
vacation days; TIAA-CREF; medical and dental coverage; strong
support for professional development. Library faculty appointment at
rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor depending upon
qualifications.

Position Available as soon as final approval received. We would
prefer to have the successful applicant start work in May/June, 1997.
