I agree with Laura Raymond's point regarding "thanks" messages.
Sending them to the entire list is useful in that it lets others know the
request has been filled.

However, I disagree about the thank-you's. I find them useful in that
they inform me that the request has been filled. This may prevent
duplication of effort on the part of the many helpful librarians on
this list. The key here is to use the subject line, so that most
people can delete without reading if they wish.
