Well, I, too received West statements with CBC titles on
them. However, I *also* received CBC statements with THE
SAME titles on them! Plus, the West statements had
different account numbers, neither West nor CBC account
numbers. We need to be very watchful about this. I am also
getting "alerts" from CBC about titles I formerly got from
Shepards. These alerts tell me that my subscription is "out
of date" and perhaps I want to fix this? I got a telemarketing
call about one of these titles, too, and we have subscribed to
them for a long time. All is not well in law-lib land.

I have just received the latest West statement, and I was
very pleased
to see that they have distinguished the CBC invoices within
the
statement. Given my experience with West billing in the
past, I am not
surprised that they would handle this transition with far more
consideration than Clark Boardman or Thomson have in the
past. I
believe this bodes well for the future.
As for the problems in accessing WIPG customer service, it
appears to be
the consequence of rushing this whole merger thing and
leaving the
customer service staff and reps unprepaired (perhaps the
rush is due to
their anxiety about the dubiousness of the merger as it
currently
stands?).
At the same time, I believe many of us law librarians are
rushing to
judgment as well. We do ourselves a disservice by airing
every single
complaint over law-lib. I personally have often gotten so riled
about a
particular problem with a provider (aka vendor) that it gets
blown out
of proportion and interferes with my ability to deal with it
rationally.
It limits my credibility with providers; in the same way, we all
damage
our credibility if we vent every little problem on law-lib.
We have an organization, CRIV, which is intended to deal
with this
issue. Let's try to funnel our complaints through them.
One librarian's opinion. Let the flames begin! Chris
