Another comment on shipping notices

This is a follow-up to yesterday's message about books being sent on approval
without the cost listed on the shipping notice.
Could the publishers also note:
We are starting to receive promotional CD-ROM products. (Don't you wonder how
they can charge us so much for these things when they can send the things out
for free to promote them?) There was one in my mail today. Just on a lark, I
decided to see if the price was included. I read everything (even the small
print) and they did not have the price anywhere in the documentation. I'm
sure you can guess where this one ended up.
Publishers--we can't buy things unless we have some clue about the cost. We
cannot even promote these things to our users until we know what we may be
facing. Some of the majors have been doing this for years in their
promotional literature. I think the same guidelines should apply to
promotional products.
