I have been trying to keep up with all the mergers, as
well as the related email traffic, and I have to admit I
have not done the best of jobs at it.
I have a thought to raise, and if someone else has
already brought this up, I apologize: Most of us have
probably seen or heard of the letter from West
Information Publishing Group, which mentions that the
billing for CBC, LCP, Bancroft-Whitney, and West
Publishing are being combined.
We use EBSCO Subscription Services to handle a lot
of our subscriptions. They have always handled CBC,
but West and LCP never let EBSCO do that, so we
deal with West and LCP ourselves. We have no
Bancroft-Whitney titles. My fear is that the transition
will become such a monumental mess, since they are
incorporating all of these together. Will the new
company understand the difference between direct
accounts, and accounts handled through EBSCO? If
the purchase of Prentice Hall Law & Business by
Aspen, and the Shepard's titles from CBC and others
is any indications, we are in for a long year.
Maybe I am wrong (actually I hope I am), but I get the
feeling this type of concern of mine (and others
probably) was not a concern of Thompson.
If anyone else is in the same boat as me, and you have
heard something one way or another, I would love to
hear what you know.
Sorry for the lengthiness of this.
Thanks :)
