Hi, and happy holidays, fellow law-libbers!

One of our faculty members read a book a few years ago, the author and title of which he does not recall. He's been looking for a copy of that book, if he can figure out what it is.
Just as a long shot--he describes the book as a witty and colorful and scholarly history of early common law from Pre-Norman times. It was probably published within the past ten years or so. Does this description ring a bell with anybody out there? I know this is practically nothing to go on, but maybe somebody out there knows what this may be. Appreciate the help.
