Washington University Law Library has the following position open:

Assistant Law Librarian -- Access Services / Reference Librarian

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     Reference Services: Provide general reference service to students,
faculty, and other patrons including rotating coverage of the reference
desk. Participate in bibliographic instruction with other reference
librarians. Responsible for publishing the Guide to Faculty Research
Services. Responsible for contributions to all Information Resources
publications as required.

     Administration: Create and maintain records regarding services to the
faculty. Coordinate record maintenance with the Public Services
Librarian. Compile and interpret statistics and any necessary reports.
Create and maintain Procedures Manual for all job functions within the
Department. Assist in interdepartmental planning. In conjunction with the
Electronic Resources Librarian, select appropriate electronic media to
support faculty research and pedagogical endeavors. Assist with the
process of interviewing and hiring professional staff for the Law
Library.

     Faculty Services: Supervise all phases of interlibrary loan to the
School of Law faculty and students. Plan systems and procedures for
the delivery and receipt of materials. Supervise document delivery to
faculty. Plan systems and procedures for delivery of materials to
faculty. Develop and maintain all records and record keeping activities.
Position supervises one Interlibrary Loan Assistant and approximately
fifteen student workers.

     Miscellaneous: Retain full subscriptions to electronic bulletin boards
and listservs which deal with the law library profession, technology and
INNOPAC system. Retain full membership in the American Association of
Law Libraries, in one or more of its regional chapters, and in one or more
of its Special Interest Sections. Attend local, regional and national
professional meetings as part of continuing education. Other duties as
assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of all areas of Anglo-American legal bibliography.
Knowledge of full text online legal databases.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems of a complex nature.
Demonstrated skillful use of microcomputers and database management
systems.
Experience with using Internet resources and research tools.
Experience with library automation system, preferably INNOPAC.
Proven ability to communicate with a variety of staff and users.
Proven ability to effectively express ideas, policies, and plans verbally
and in writing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
M.A. or M.L.S. or M.S., Library Science from A.L.A. accredited library
school
J.D. from A.B.A. accredited law school.
Law library reference experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Law practice experience
Law library public services experience.
Demonstrated ability to lecture to both large and small groups.
Experience using Access and PowerPoint software.
Experience using Windows 95.
Experience with INNOPAC library system in a law library.
Working knowledge of one or more foreign languages helpful.
