Dear Colleagues:
In connection with the inquiry I made recently (about obtaining L.A.
Law footage to show during a class), I want to commend to
you an excellent article by Wesley Cochran, Law Library Director & Professor
of Law at Texas Tech University. This article addresses many of the issues
academic librarians are likely to face when dealing with videos,
including fair use and the educational exemption. Following is the
citation:
Why can't I Watch this Video Here?: Copyright Confusion and Performances
of Videocassettes and Videodiscs in Libraries, 15 Hastings Comm. & Ent. L.J.
837 (1993).
In addition to receiving a reference to the above article, I received many helpful
suggestions and have followed up on most of them. So far, I haven't been
successful in my quest, but I am still working on it. I will post to the list any new
insights or developments.
Thanks to Wes and everyone for your help!
