Having now seen the sitcom "Party Girl" last night, my reaction from
New York Public Library (un-official, of course--all opinions are my
own and not my employer's) is that whoever said that Mary was ditzy
was correct. However, it was nice to see a realistic depiction in
popular culture of librarians who were not old ladies with buns,
"granny" glasses, etc. (As a 31-year-old male, I never fit THAT
stereotype anyway!)
The branch that Mary worked at in the show, Seward Park, is the name
of a real branch (although there is no Park Avenue branch). I have
never been to that particular branch, but both the outside and inside
that they showed on TV could have very easily been a small branch of
the New York Public Library.
