Great message to legal publishers

I thought you had a great message to all law firms, librarians, and other need to know legal professionals. I'll tell you about a great deal, and its from the largest American Owned Legal Publisher of Primary Source Material -- LOIS. The great deal is located at WWW.PITA.COM. At the site: The U.S. Reports back to 1949 (1899 in November); All 13 Federal Circuits back to 1971; and 10 states with case law back as far as 1778, current statutes, regulations, A.G. opinions, courts rules, constitutions, acts, jury instructions, and more. The site contains over 7.5 million pages of legal information. It is highly accurate information and used by thousands of customers. There are NO printing charges, and NO downloading charges. The data is kept current to within 72 hours of receipt by LOIS. You can search multiple databases within multiple fields, and yes, all of the databases are seamlessly hyperlinked together.

The price: $2025 per year per concurrent user. Each additional concurrent user receives a 3% discount on the yearly price. With the deal is included your choice of 1 state, 1 federal circuit, and the U.S. Reports CD-ROM discs that would normally cost you $1,200 by themselves. The CD's can be networked and used by as many individuals as desired at no additional charge. When you break down the cost per minute, it is a staggering 3 minutes per penny!!! The printing charges alone charged by Westlaw and Lexis warrant the purchase of this service.

Is it a replacement for Westlaw or Lexis? Not yet, but it is a great supplement that will save you thousands of dollars a year on on-line charges. But, LOIS is adding state law coverage monthly, (Massachusetts goes up the 1st of October),. and will have all 50 states completed within the next 18 months. At that point, it will be a very serious alternative to the on-line publishers. LOIS is clearly a legal publisher that is bringing a quality product to the market at a value affordable by all.

I am proud of our company. I am proud of our prices. I am proud of the quality of our data. I am proud of the 1,400 employees that are dedicated to making a difference. I do listen. I do care.
Listen, if anyone thinks that LOIS is unfair with providing 7.5 million pages (and growing) of legal information for 1 penny per three minutes, please call me directly at 800.364.2512, extension 302 and explain it to me. I started this business in 1987 for the very reason that you complain about: I was absolutely sick and tired of being charged outrageous prices for legal information. I decided to do something about it. The question is: Will librarians and other legal professionals do something about it by supporting technology companies such as LOIS who brought you the 1st comprehensive coverage of legal information on CD-ROM, (CaseBase, Arkansas, 1989), and who now bring you the 1st comprehensive coverage of legal information on the Internet? Or will you just keep accepting "free" umbrella's?
