The Document Delivery Discussion Group met for the third year at
the AALL Annual Meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Approximately 30
people were in attendance. Academic, law firm, court, and
independent librarians were all represented. Topics discussed at
this year's meeting included commercial suppliers, new trends in
interlibrary loan, and the future of the Discussion Group.
The Document Delivery Discussion Group covers all aspects of
document delivery: traditional interlibrary loan; new trends in
interlibrary loan; commercial document delivery (with libraries
as both suppliers and receivers); and all new and developing
technologies.
We decided to carry on discussion throughout the year via law-
lib. In order to facilitate consistent subject headings, we will
use DOC DEL DG as the subject heading, regardless of specific
content. Everyone is welcome to join in the discussions.
Questions frequently appear on law-lib regarding commercial
suppliers ... where can I get SEC filings, who provides
engineering documents, etc. The Group is beginning work on an
annotated list of commercial document suppliers. The list will
complement the excellent compilation by Laura Speer, "A Guide to
Document Research and Retrieval Services," which appeared in 39
LAW LIBRARY LIGHTS 1 (January/February 1996). If you know of a
document supplier who provides specialized service, please send
this information to Mary Matuszak, mmatuszak@pipermar.com. Mary
will be collecting this information.
For future projects and meetings, I am compiling the names of
persons interested in this Discussion Group. If you would like
to be included on this list, please send me your name and
address. If you have any questions or ideas for the Discussion
Group, please do not hesitate to contact me.
