Reference Librarian
The John Marshall Law School Library
The John Marshall Law School Library invites applications for the
position of Reference Librarian.
Background: The John Marshall Law School is an independent law
school located in downtown Chicago. The Library serves 1200+
students and 55 full-time faculty, and also acts as the library for
the Chicago Bar Association. In addition to the JD program, the
law school has graduate law programs in taxation, intellectual
property, and real estate.
Duties: Will join a team of four other professionals who provide
reference and research service to the law school faculty, students,
and members of the Chicago Bar Association. Participates in a wide
variety of public services activities, including preparing research
aids, conducting tours and training sessions, and sharing in
collection development decisions. This person may also assume
supervisory responsibility for the library's federal government
depository collection. Some weekend and evening hours may be
required.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and JD from
an ABA-accredited law school. Familiarity with PC and network
applications, including word processing (Word and/or WordPerfect),
Lexis/Westlaw, the Internet and electronic mail. Excellent
speaking and writing abilities, as well as enthusiasm and a strong
service orientation. Academic law library experience preferred.
Salary/Benefits: Salary is competitive. Excellent insurance and
retirement benefits. Full-time librarians receive 20 vacation
days, 3 personal days, and 6 sick days per year. Professional
