Frank Liu is Named the 1996 Winner of the Spirit of Law Librarianship
Award.
The award committee is pleased to announce that Professor Frank Liu, Law
Library Director at Dusquene University School of Law, has been named the
1996 recipient of the Spirit of Law Librarianship Award. Prof. Liu is being
recognized for his outstanding work as a leader in the Asian American
Community, and for his important contributions to facilitating cross cultural
and academic exchanges with the academic community in China.
Professor Liu joins a distinguished group of award recipients that includes
Professor Wes Daniels of the University of Miami School of Law for his work
with the homeless, Jessie L. Matthews, of Rutgers University School of Law,
for her work with the Patient Learning Resource Center at the Magee
Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, and deanna harragarra waters, for her
work with the Native American Rights Fund libraries.
The award is given each year to a law librarian who, using their position and
skills as a law librarian, has made a meaningful contribution to a social
concern or cause, or in some way has used their professional training in
service of their fellow man. The award was established, in lieu of royalties
from their book, _The Spirit of Law Librarianship_, by Roy Mersky, Atlas
Family Centennial Professor of Law and Director of Research, Jamail Center
for Legal Research, Tarlton Law Library, The University of Texas at Austin,
and Richard Leiter, Library Director and Associate Professor of Law, Allen
Mercer Daniel Law Library, Howard University School of Law and in
conjunction with their publisher, Fred B. Rothman Company.
The award will be presented at the AALL meeting in Indianapolis during the
Jamail Center/Tarlton Law Library Reception, Saturday, July 20, 8:30 p.m., at
the Westin Hotel, Senate Rooms 1 and 2. Anyone interested in attending is
