NEW JERSEY LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION FOR THE INTERNET
BULLETIN NO. 21
July 1, 1996
The New Jersey State Legislature's Homepage, officially in business
today, has this URL:
http://www.njleg.state.nj.us
The information at this site, provided free of charge to the public
in accordance with N.J.Laws 1995 ch.319, includes:
(1) The "New Jersey Permanent Statutes Database," the most
current compilation of the general public statutes in force; and
the New Jersey Constitution; both in full text, fully searchable.
(2) Newly enacted laws ("pamphlet laws") from 1996 forward.
The pamphlet law texts are not searchable as such, but are
retrievable by chapter number or bill number. (Those laws which
amend or supplement the general public statutes are also
incorporated into the fully searchable "Permanent Statutes
Database," generally within a week or two of enactment.)
(3) All bills in the current Legislature, with history and
status information. The bills are retrievable by number, by
sponsor, by subject heading, and by words in their synopses; the
full texts are not searchable, but can be viewed, downloaded, or
printed. The bill texts are provided as Envoy files, which
reproduce the printed versions exactly. The Envoy Viewer software
necessary to read, download, and print the bill texts is itself
downloadable without charge from Tumbleweed Software, with a link
from the Legislature's site.
(4) A current roster of members of the Legislature, with
addresses, phone numbers, photographs, and biographical data,
retrievable by name, by municipality, and by legislative district,
and linked to data on their committees and their bills.
(5) The current legislative calendar and most recent
legislative digest.
(6) Audit reports by the State Auditor, from 1996 forward.
