This message appeared in the May issue of the AALL Newsletter. I am
posting it here at the request of the speaker for an annual meeting
educational program. Responses and examples (see below) should be
addressed to Prof. Christine Littleton (littletn@law.ucla.edu).
Questions about the program should be addressed to me (amyers@bu.edu).

Where is the line between flirting and harassment? Have you ever
wondered what to do if a senior partner made a grab at you? Have you
ever been uncomfortable when colleagues told sexual jokes when they knew
you were around? Or were you ever accused of harassing someone else
without understanding why? These are common questions these days.
Sometimes it seems as though the ground is shifting under us, leaving us
unsure about what is and what isn't acceptable behavior. Wanting to do the
right thing isn't enough anymore -- it's time to learn more about it.
We'll have an opportunity to do that in Indianapolis at a program
entitled "Sex, Power, and the Workplace." Professor Christine Littleton
of UCLA Law School will talk to us about the dynamics of power, the two
types of sexual harassment, the legal issues that define it, what options
and courses of action are available for victims, the consequences for
perpetrators, and our responsibility as employers.
To make this presentation as specific as possible for law
librarians, Prof. Littleton is looking for examples, questions, scenarios,
and issues that you may have encountered and/or wondered about in your
workplace. All responses will remain confidential. Contact her by
e-mail (littletn@law.ucla.edu) or by U.S. mail (Prof. Christine Littleton,
UCLA School of Law, 405 Hilgard Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90095).
