Jacqueline Wright:

On behalf of the staff I do apologize that no one returned your two calls.
Although such a complaint about the quality of our service to members is
infrequent, it is always upsetting to me to hear that a member has not
received good support from headquarters. I will mention your note to the
staff at our next meeting on Monday morning and urge them to be more careful
in the future.

I am glad to hear that you have always valued the Price Index. I hope that
you are aware that our decision to publish it as a separate publication was
based on two objectives: 1. to enable us to publish it on a more timely
basis, and 2) to invest some resources in expanding its coverage and scope. I
hope you agree that these are two worthwhile objectives.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that AALL is far from being a big-time
publisher. Our efforts thus far are really fledgling ones. Nevertheless they
are intended to get us started providing a type of service where we must
become active and proficient. We are just now beginning to develop some
publishing expertise and the "infrastructure" to support a publishing
program.

You have made two excellent suggestions regarding invoicing and standing
orders; I will discuss them with Peter Beck, Director of Publications. I hope
that we are able to act on your suggestions in the near future.

Please let me know how I might be of service to you at any time in the
future.

Roger Parent, Executive Director
