Our library subscribes to all of the PLI course handbook series. This
past 12 -18 months PLI's modus operandi has changed in two significant
ways. We have received the same title (same dates, contents) under two
different course handbook series. We weren't aware of their having done
that before.
Also, and even more importantly, we have found that course handbook titles
(for which we have prepaid, as a subscription package plan) have been
arriving months after they have been advertized by PLI as being available.
When our serials department claims our late titles, they have arrived -
with an invoice! When we have ordered additional copies of individual titles,
they also arrive - weeks or months before the subscription copy arrive,
and with an invoice.
These titles are in high demand among our patrons, so their late arrival
creates problems for us and for them.
Calls to PLI have not been satisfactory. Basically, we've been told:
"Don't claim - wait until we send it to you." There is no explanation for
copies being available by claiming or by specific ordering long before
"subscription" copies are sent.
Can anyone shed any light?
Many thanks -
