This is a warning for those of you who subscribe to the Annotated Laws of
Massachusetts from LCP.
One year ago we received the bound 1994 Legislative Acts volume of the
ALM for the first time with the annual supplements to the code.
It came without a separate invoice but I was suspicious and called LCP
and verified that we were indeed being charged about $40.00 for it with
this cost totalled into the annual subscription charge. I demanded a new
invoice and LCP invoiced me for the supplements less the $40.00 charge.
I tossed the book in the trash.
I also mentioned this on the List.
Yesterday, we received the 1995 Legislative Acts volume with an invoice
for $49.00. I have tossed it into the trash as well and have sent a
letter to LCP, my standard 39 USCA 3009 letter. Someday, they will learn.
Check your set. Review your needs. You may actually want this book, but
I'll bet you don't. I subscribe to all 50 state codes. This is the only
code that attempts to send me a bound session law volume. What use do I
have for this? I wonder even how much need or use there is for this in
Massachusetts. And what a sneaky way to issue it.
Legal publishers will never cease to amaze me in their pursuit of a buck.
