Although I have found the material I needed, my search has raised a
question in my mind that I'd love to get some feedback about. I needed
to locate an executive order from the Governor (calif.) After trying a
few sources, including the Calif Home Page, I called the Governor's
office to ask where they are published or available.
I was told they are not published -- they are sent to the calif. Secy. of
State archives, and that's it. If one needs a copy, one has to request
it from S.O.S. -- I'm not sure if they'll search or if you even need to
know the number to get a copy. The one I was looking for was on
affirmative action (or equal opportunity, depending on your point of
view), and due to its high profile subject, they had a copy at the
Governor's office, which they faxed to me.
So my actual problem was solved, but I _really_ think it's strange that
there is no place to even see an index or list of these orders. I'm not a
very political person generally, but shouldn't this information also be
accessible, like the statutes or other govt. materials??
