CCH Exempt Org. Rptr.-caution

We have discovered a quality problem with the CCH set EXEMPT
ORGANIZATIONS REPORTER. It is not my intent to begin any volley of
negative comments about CCH. I felt a professional responsibility to
pass this information along so that we can alert our attorneys, who no
doubt depend on the currency and completeness of the Library material we
maintain for them.
This week, one of our incredibly astute attorneys recognized that
amendments to Virginia law as found in the Virginia Code were NOT
reflected in the CCH text of the same material as found in volume 1 of
their REPORTER. We did some further investigaton and discovered
additional seriously outdated text in the Virginia section. I called CCH
and spoke to a senior editor of this publication.
She was extremely apologetic and told me that she had called an
immediate meeting to plan how to fix the problems. She admitted they had
not devoted enough of their resources to the upkeep of the state statute
section to guarantee the currency of the texts. She told me she hopes to
have all revision work done by the end of the year. Unfortunately, she
could not tell me which of the states' texts are reliable, and which are
not. She has advised me to advise anyone who uses this set that, while
the federal material is current, <<the texts of the state statutes cannot
be guaranteed current and complete at this time>>.
I have notified all of our attorneys and we will label our set with
a warning of some sort. Until such time as we hear from CCH that this
deficiency has been corrected, I recommend approaching the use of at
least the state part of this set with caution.
