What a problem. There is this great stuff that we used years ago to deal with
slippery book carts. It is tape that has ridges at quarter inch intervals.
It looks like wide "scotch" tape, about an inch wide. We layed down a strip
of this stuff on each side where the books would be and it did the trick. It
lasted forever too. I bet it was a 3M product.
