Re: sending surveys on this list

I would like to respond to this question because I myself put out an
informal survey initially for my own information, but then discovered
that the topic was of interest to a lot of other law firm librarians.
Consequently, what started out small (for me) grew into something much
more.

My survey dealt with private law firm librarian's practice of billing
their time to clients. From my perspective, I got a great response: over
50 people took the time to answer the 10 or 12 questions. I now have an
article based on this survey coming out in the next issue of PLL
Perspectives. Clearly this type of survey was appropriate for the
Law-lib forum.

As for other types of surveys, I'm a great advocate of the "delete key"
doctrine. At a mere push of a button, one can effectively
ignore anything. It goes almost without saying that what's appropriate
for some is not appropriate for others. Using the delete key allows
those who are uninterested in the survey to bypass it while leaving it
available for those who are interested. An easier and more effective
method would be hard to find that accomplishes both these goals.

Well, enough of that and back to work I go.
