US News coverage of library schools

Good morning, all!

Now that we've had a couple of weeks to bask in the glory of librarianship
being included in the US News ratings of graduate programs, should we
consider capitalizing
on the opportunity we've been given? Should AALL write to US News and
congratulate
them on the foresight of including librarianship, The Profession of the
Information Age, in their article, and encourage more complete coverage next
year? Should AALL enlist other library associations to do the same?
President Pat, VP Frank, PR Czarina Hazel, are you reading???

As individuals, should we contact our library schools and politely inquire
as to why we weren't ranked #1? (Unless, of course, you went to Illinois,
in which case you might want to send a "congrats and keep up the good work"
letter!) I intend to talk to some folks at my library school this summer,
when I'll be there, and hope that others do so, too.

Let's think about how we can promote librarianship. Maybe we can get US
News to rank library schools by specialty? Maybe we can get our library
schools to communicate with US News, offering assistance in gathering
information for next year's article? We shouldn't let this opportunity pass
us by!
