Law Journal Extra! and Compassware Development Inc. have introduced a new
state-of-the-art search engine that will allow lawyers to perform powerful
and concise searches for U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal decisions on the
World Wide Web. This new technology is now available on the Web at
http://search.ljx.com.
New York-based Law Journal Extra! (http://www.ljx.com) is the award-winning
website for legal news, case law and related resources on the Internet and
the online home of The National Law Journal, New York Law Journal, and Law
Technology Product News.
Compassware's MagnetSearch technology will allow lawyers to search Circuit
Court of Appeals decisions from October 1994 to the present using natural
language and conceptual language queries. Precise and efficient, conceptual
queries are uniquely suited for legal research because they provide lawyers
with a powerful tool for building customized searches based on personal
knowledge of a particular area of law.
In a conceptual query, for example, a search for the word "torts" may be
linked to other associated concepts such as "malpractice," "negligence,"
"standard of care" and "liability." Using statistical and semantic
analysis, the powerful conceptual search engine will identify relevant cases
even if none of those precise terms appear in a particular decision. In
this way, the conceptual query finds information that would be overlooked by
more traditional search methods and significantly reduces the number of
false hits.
LJX plans to expand the use of this pioneering technology to searches of
articles from The National Law Journal, memos of law authored by the
nation's leading law firms, and other case law libraries.
Compassware develops sophisticated and powerful Intelligent Agents, Search
Engines and Real-Time News Filtering and Retrieval Products.
