Finding Main Street: the Bureau of the Census?

I chuckled when I read the message from Alan-Jacobs: the cd-rom works but
all too well! It finds every (I would underline that if I could) instance
of Main Street, and you have to eliminate by duplication.

Perhaps one way would be to find all the Main Streets, and put them into
a database as suggested, including as a separate record the name of the
city in which each Main Street is found. Then sort on that record, as
well as the state, and eliminate any duplicates. That should give you a
fairly close list of one Main Street per town in these United States.
