A couple of weeks ago I asked if anyone knew of a source for determining
library budgets based on per attorney cost. First, thanks to all who
responded. One response directed me to Altman Weil Pensa. I called the
Chicago office and got a response from the Racine, WI office. They do
have a study on this. It is part of a larger study which surveys 600 law
firms per year. The total survey costs $495.00 and a 30 day approval is
an option.

Jim Wilber from the Racine office did provide me with some data which is
as follows:
The cost includes reference materials, library books, periodicals,
subscriptions and research services. Research services refer to the net
amount that is left after subtracting out client billables.

This data is for 1994 as found in the 1995 report:
--> All firms: $3,315/year
--> East Central Region including WI, IL, IN, MI, MN: $2904 or 1.2 % gross
receipts
--> cities 500,000-1mil in population: $3291 pr 1.3% g.r.
--> firms with 75 + attorneys: $3,481 or 1.2% g.r.
--> multi-office locations, one firm: $4,008 or 1.3% g.r.

If you would like more information, Jim Wilber's tel # is (414) 886-1304.
Again, thanks for the help in tracking down this info.
