While on the subject of NYC boroughs, law librarians should know or be
reminded that since Queens was not a city, but a county, it is not only
the Post Office that recognizes the "neighborhoods" as towns. Martindale
Hubbell's blue pages list Astoria, Ravenswood, Long Island City, etc as
seperate entries, along with Bronx, Brooklyn, "New York" (i.e. Manhattan)
and Staten Island. Thus, attorneys will page through looking at the top
page headings for the larger sections, and wonder why "Queens" doesn't
show up after "New York" and before Staten Island. This can provide
hours of fun (well, a minute or too) for the librarian on a slow afternoon.
Cordially,
James O'Meara
(Long Island City, NY)
