Re: Unpublished Decisions

Bravo to what Stanford is doing ... it is important to have a counter-balance
to depublished unpublished and opinions vacated upon the request of the
parties.

This is another reason why Law Schools have to be careful about being co-opted
into becoming "internet publishers" for courts.

It is important for law schools to maintain their independence so that they may
publish material a court may not wish to have published and otherwise question
court publication and dissemination practices.

The Robert Crown Law Library at Stanford Law School is pleased to
announce an exciting addition to our web page. We now have the complete
text of the unpublished decision, Tamara Hood v. National Enquirer, as
well as a hypertext embedded table of contents for the opinion.
Many of you may remember reading about this California Court of Appeals
case in an article in the Wall St. Journal a few months ago
that discussed the trend of unpublished decisions ("Appeals Courts Keep
More and More Opinions Secret," 12/13/95).

The Law Library plans to add more unpublished and depublished materials to
our web site in the future, and we'll keep you posted of any significant
additions.

Happy Surfing!
