Dear Saundra,
I looked quite extensively when I first started doing the Edgar filings for
our firm, and I didn't come up with anything particularly useful. Since
then I have tried some software from software developers but they
were also disappointing.
At present I have a template set up for each type of filing in
wordperfect-i.e. 13d's and 8K templates are two pages for the form part
of the filing. I then pull in the rest of the document as unformatted text
from the original wordperfect file to my wordperfect form. Once I've
cleaned it up as much as possible I convert it to asci and use a windows
asci editor and edgarlink to finish clean-up and check for errors. The
process is tedious and time-consuming but that is Edgar in a nutshell, in
my opinion. I don't think the process will get much better until they
change the edgarlink software itself.
I know that isn't the answer you are looking for, and I hope you find
software that is more useful, but I do find it unlikely. I would be happy to
discuss the whole process in more depth, and list the software I have
rejected if you think that would be helpful to you. I went to a seminar
given by Merrill Corporation that was quite helpful. They have an 800
number and have been both courteous and useful when I have called
with questions. Let me know if I can be of any help.
