After almost four months of searching, I wanted to let all of you know
that we have finally found both of our 19th-century French copyright
cases. Special thanks are due to Claire Germain at Cornell, Francine
Alfandary at Columbia, Marlo Bernal at the Library of Congress, and
several other people who had suggestions and/or took the time to look. I
now have a very happy professor upstairs; unfortunately he now thinks
that given enough time, I can do the impossible. Thanks again!!
