It appears that CBC is headed down the Matthew Bender trail. That is,
they will continue price increases of about 20% per year until the
subscriber base begins to shrink from cancellations and "write for order"
requests, especially for these library classics. This turned out to be
quite expensive for M. Bender in the long run, since they are still
anathema in the law library community.

Then there is the matter of converting all these publications to the
loose-leaf format. I have been told that CBC believes that librarians
prefer loose-leafs. If so, it might help to let them know the headaches
they cause us.

Unfortunately, lawyers do prefer loose-leafs, because they believe, often
quite irrationally, that they are more current. My wife used to be
Publications Director for the Oregon State Bar, and she tried to move to
a hard bound format for many of the Bar's CLE publications, because they
are much easier to produce and update. The lawyers on the CLE Committee
wouldn't have it, even tho they are updated only every 2-5 years. I'm
afraid this is what we are up against: lawyers like them (for no good
reason, in most cases), and publishers feel they can derive mor revenue
from them.
