Since we seem to have started a bit of a thread on humorous opinion
writing, I would like to call attention to a legend in Arkansas' judiciary,
Justice George Rose Smith.

During his tenure, whenever April 1 fell on a Monday, J. Smith would write
a fictional opinion. These were only published in the Arkansas Advance
Sheets and not in the official reports. However, one of these opinions
made it into the SW2d. Catt v. State, 691 S.W.2d 120 is a very funny
opinion. Interestingly, if you Shepardize the opinion you will find
a cite in A.L.R. I haven't checked lately, but the opinion used to be
available on Lexis and Westlaw. The opinion does not appear in the
Arkansas Reports.

Merry Christmas to All,
(and Happy Holidays)
