CALI-IOLIS AUTHORING SYSTEM
CALI-IOLIS is a Windows-based software system for the rapid
creation of computer-based legal instructional materials. The
system was created by the Law Courseware Consortium in the United
Kingdom and in use by dozens of British legal faculty. Through a
cooperative arrangement with CALI, this software is available to
faculty, staff and students at all CALI-member law schools in the
United States.
The CALI-IOLIS Authoring System package includes the following:
CALI-IOLIS Authoring software.
CALI-IOLIS runtime software for running lessons created with
the authoring software.
Demonstration Lesson written in CALI-IOLIS that explains how
to use the software and illustrates the question types and
capabilities of the software.
The booklet, How to Write a CALI Lesson with three sections:
1 How to Write a CALI Lesson: a concise and readable guide
to preparing and organizing your materials for authoring
CALI lessons.
2 Using CALI-IOLIS, a paper version of the demonstration
lesson included with the software package.
3 Literature of Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction: a
modest collection of articles from Law Reviews and other
scholarly publications focusing on the efficacy and
benefits of computer-based instruction in legal
education.
An Internet discussion list, CALIAUTH has been formed as a means of
obtaining technical support and sharing ideas and techniques.
Anyone using CALI-IOLIS should join CALIAUTH by sending an email
message with "subscribe caliauth <full name>" as the only
text in the body of the message to listproc@cali.org. We will post
software updates, sample lessons, an FAQ and other items of
interest regarding CALI-IOLIS and the Trautman Competition on the
CALI Web Site at http://www.cali.org.
