This is in response to Joe Fugere's message about compact shelving. I
saw the compact shelving units in use at the Detroit office of Arthur
Andersen & Co. in 1993. They seemed to work well, but before I was
there they had a problem with them. Apparently, the shelves stuck,
and then when the user yanked on them, the shelves moved very quickly
and all of the books came off. Arthur Andersen wound up having to ask
the manufacturer for replacement shelves.
Incidently, Joe, I knew you when I was a law student at the University
of Toledo. I practiced law for a while, and then when to library
school. It is good to hear from you.
