I have been using "The Assistant" cataloging software for many years without
encountering any major problems.
Suddenly I am unable to add records. This is what happens: I add a record
in the usual manner (either by downloading from RLIN or by entering it
myself). When I hit F10 to save record, I get a message on the bottom of
the screen - "ERR: INS generic (18)". The only portion of the record which
is saved consists of main title and authorship. The rest of the record is
blank.
I have done System Management, File Checking, in the hope that this might
solve the problem. I am not using Windows. One of our very capable
computer people has looked at various possibilities. No luck.
If anyone out there has ever had this problem or has any suggestions,
please respond to me directly. Thank you!
