My 2 cents:
Humor stemming from an individual's life can break the tension. I recently
attended the funeral of my grandfather, whose eulogy was given my his
son-in-law, a minister. My uncle did throw in a few humorous asides, all in
keeping with my grandfather's character. My uncle told these stories with
real affection and respect for my grandfather, which is different from just
telling jokes. These humorous stories also helped us remember Granddaddy's
life, not just his death.
Sorry to give such a personal reply.
