I also wonder who the "and others" were who CBC surveyed in their market
research. Were any librarians in this group? Certainly, it doesn't sound like
their own advisory board was surveyed in regards to this particular
publication. One of the reasons librarians prefer bound volumes w/pocket parts
over looseleaf is the fact that with looseleaf publications we must deal with
the problem of stolen pages. Patrons are less likely to steal a book than a
chunk of looseleaf pages. Pages are also lost or "misplaced" when they remove
the pages or pamphlet from the binder for photocopying. Contrary to what the
publisher believes, looseleafs take more time and money, not less.
