Thank you for your followup on this. I wonder why they want to
charge us for our law clerks but won't charge you for yours.
The issue of making deals and charging different institutions
differently came to my mind when we started discussing this
question with Shepard's. If they charge for concurrent users
and fix the disk so that more users cannot use it then the price
structure has some predictability. If they charge for some users
but not for others, then there is room for a lot of fudging. THey
told us up front that if we thought the price was too high for what
we were getting (or something like that) that we could renegotiate.
I didn't try to pin them down as to just exactly what they meant.
I did tell my local rep that I would be posting the question of
pricing on law-lib and that when she sent me her quote she should
keep in mind that it would not be confidential.

P.S. I join the other poster in being grateful that Shepard's
pays attention to what we do here. I also respect the fact that
they gave us some time to chew on these issues in a public forum.
Well... they are giving those of you already on subscription time
to do it. My own position is a matter of choice and of honor.
