Re Rita Reusch's message concerning the ABA hearing:

'The Committee will meet in Chicago Debember 8-10. A hearing will be
held on the first day, with presentations from invited
representatives only."

Sounds like the ABA wants to keep the riff-raff out ... but, I am sure that
West and Lexis who through license agreements share the citation monopoly will
be sitting at the table ... invited or uninvited.

We note that West and Lexis both had "two" seats on the AALL Citation Task
force which resulted in deals like special language to favor Lexis's
unwillingness to properly handle docket numbers on its on-line system and other
oddities such as a citation system that ignores unpublished opinions, thereby
solidifying the Westlaw and Lexis numbers.

Anyway, paragraph numbers are a no-brainer ... and what else does anyone have
to offer that can be started up tomorrow morning ... and we have to wait a year
for the ABA to figure this out?????

Alan
