I am interested in knowing how academic libraries are dealing with
networked computer carrels. At Duke, we currently do not have a
reservation policy for using these carrels. However, many students
seem to take possession of a carrel by leaving their books, papers,
and jackets in a carrel and the computer logged in while they leave
for class, lunch, dinner, etc. Although we have tried to allow this
to be self-policing, we continue to get inquiries (and complaints)
from students that the carrels are being unnecessarily tied up.
I would like to know if other places have reservation policies, or
exactly how they deal with this problem.
Thanks.
