virus problem on laptops

This message is being cross-posted to LAW-LIB and TEKNOIDS. Sorry for the
duplication.

Greetings,

This message is directed primarily at institutions who own laptops which
students, faculty or staff may check out for individual use. We have six
laptops which our students may check out for in-library use which are
connected to our law student network. Recently, we found the NYB virus on
these laptops. Although we had been periodically checking these machines for
viruses, we hope to implement a new, more frequent virus check policy. Have
other institutions implemented virus check policies for laptops which have
been successful? We are hoping to (1) ask students to scan their floppy
disc before checking out a machine and (2) scan each machine upon return
before it is checked out to the next user.

Please respond directly to me with your comments/suggestions. I will be
happy to post a summary of responses if there is sufficient interest.

Thank you,

Sheri
