Law on the Net, a new book by journalist James Evans, is the most
comprehensive, up-to-date guide to legal resources on the Internet,
commercial online services, electronic bulletin boards (BBs), newsgroups and
listservers. It has just been published by Nolo Press.
Law on the Net provides addresses (URLs) and instructions for accessing
primary and secondary law sources, and offers listings for an extensive range
of legal subjects, such as adoption, biotechnology, consumer rights,
intellectual property, international law, state and national government, and
more. The book includes all the federal and state courts available either on
the Internet or through dial-up BBSs. The book also catalogs information
found at premier law school sits, law libraries, and other law related
organizations.
Law on the Net is copiously cross indexed to make finding information as easy
as possible without wasting time in fruitless or expensive searches. Each
listing is not just an address but offers comments about the information
found there.
Evans is a reporter for the San Francisco Daily Journal, covering
intellectual property, technology and the Internet, and writes a monthly
column about online legal resources for California Lawyer magazine. He is the
recipient of several journalism awards, including from the Associated Press
and the Fund for Investigative Journalism in Washington.
