Dear all:
There were questions a while back about the Sterling Who's Who.
I have some answers. It is a membership organization, obtaining mailing
lists from various professional organizations. It does NOT distribute
its publication to any libraries--they do not want any stockbrokers
contacting their members. The purpose is supposed to be provision of a
networking tool to CEO's and any one else who is willing to pay their
membership fee. The fee is: 5year membership: 3 monthly installments
of $180. Lifetime membership is 4 monthly installments of $180. Then
each year, you pay $49 for "annual dues." For this price, YOU GET: a
wall plaque, photocopy-able artwork that you can add to your business
cards and stationary, a CD-ROM listing of the membership and software to
run it on a DOS-based PC. It is searchable by a variety of fields
(though the salespeople there are not sophisticated enough to know
"fields"). You also get special discounts on long-distance service,
access to golf clubs across the country, and an option to buy a hardcover
version for $99, to members only. They claim 75K members.
Maybe I'm a bit cynical, but I think the main purpose of Sterling
Who's Who is to make money for its creators.
