Hi all-
I have missed most of this discussion because our server was down, but I
thought I'd wade in anyway. ;-)
I became a llibrarian in order to help people of all backgrounds find the
information they needed. For the most part, my career has involved
assisting pro se patrons on a daily basis. I enjoy it a lot, and would
not trade it for anything. I think that the usefullness of performing
reference services on-line is incredible, and that we as a profession
should actively work to provide such services.
However, the question becomes, is law-lib the proper place for this
traffic, or should we be proactive and set up a special list for pro se
patrons, and the librarians that would like to assist them.
As the Internet grows, we, law-lib readers, can expect to get more and
more of these types of questions. If we plan ahead, we could nip this
traffic in the bud with a combination of a speacilized list, and gentle
messages to those that erroneously post to law-lib, that assistance can
be found on the new list.
Am I the only one who would be willing to monitor such a new list? I
hope, and expect, not.
What do others think.
Take care,
Brian-
