Charles - When we installed our West Ohio Library on cd-rom, we were
thinking that it would, in fact, result in lower Lexis usage. And
despite the fact that around the same time we went on a flat-rate
arrangement with Lexis that may have skewed our figures, based on the
invoices, we really haven't experienced any siginificant reduction. At
least not yet. Many of our potential cd-rom users are still more
comfortable with online sources (or even books), and so they may be going
online rather than learning how to use the cd-rom. However, that is
starting to change as more users do learn, and as newer associates come
in who have had cd-rom training already. So, I suppose our Lexis usage
may still drop at some point, but not as of yet. By the way, this West
Ohio Library is the only cd-rom we have on the network. All the others
are installed on a stand-alone PC in the library.
